Inspired by the Japanese folklore of the Yuki Onna ("Snow Woman"), she is a yōkai ("supernatural entity") who is often seen during cold blizzard nights searching for someone to hug and freeze them to death. For centuries, parents have warned their children not to play outside during those chilly days, using folklore to scare and protect them from the dangerous weather.
